We all tend to drift towards things that are popular, exciting or inspirational, that’s normal. Being able to break that cycle, is what sets a good UX designer apart from the rest. Is it a gut feeling, a better experience that commands us, you, to break the rules?
How do you convince clients this is best for their brand?
Most of the time your “gut” or “feeling” is steering you in the right direction. One ways to see if your gut is correct is what I am coining “Visitors Experience” or VX™ for short. Use your family, friends, strangers to test your logic. Show them your wires, see if they understand, can they navigate, find information, understand your “gut” instincts. The VX™ is one of the most important things that we as UX designers will ever face and overcome. The main elements that a VX™ designer will encounter on any given site should not change, YOU should make a simple gesture or mouse movement, standard, intuitive. Once you find that “standard”, VX™ it, if it works, talk about it, describe it, make it a standard in the industry.
There is always one person who set a standard, is that you?
