Crazy week, had the opportunity to be on a Podcast, with Chris Miller, Managing Director, Syntagma Group. Chris and I go way, way back, each conversation teaches me more about what clients are looking for, and Chris learns about all the new cool UX/Tech.
We talk about UX hiring. It is a muddy subject and one of the toughest to understand, since being a UX professional/specialist goes pretty deep. VISION & GOALS, STAKEHOLDER INTERVIEWS, CURRENT STATE & ANALYTIC ANALYSIS, COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS, USER TYPES & USE CASES, CONTENT STRATEGY, WORKFLOWS, WIREFRAMES, USER TESTING, CREATIVE TREATMENTS, FULL CREATIVE, INTERACTIVE PROTOTYPES, all these should be in a UX Specialist wheelhouse. How about heuristics, personas, accessibility, mand maps, UI, Front End, etc. as you can see, it is endless.
Most people can do UI, but an actual UX person, sees it all, parking lots, Starbucks, traffic flow, how things around you work, navigation systems, heads up displays, cycling computer, it is VUXtm.
When applying to a listing, you are 1 of hundreds of resumes when you use a brilliant, knowledgeable recruiter you get something more. They know you, know the client, and see the fit. It is up to you to educate and sell yourself.
I’ll post the link to the podcast when I know it.
