How Figma Becomes a Token, in a Design System. This is hummed to “How a Bill becomes a Law”, Schoolhouse Rock.

Aaron: Uph! You sure gotta build a lot of components to get to IDS here at Infor. But I wonder who that sad little scrap of Figma is?
I’m just in Figma.
Yes, I’m only in Figma.
And I’m sitting here at Infor.
Well, it’s a long, long journey to IDS.
It’s a long, long wait while I’m sitting in Figma,
But I know I’ll be a Token
At least I hope and pray that I will,
But today I am still just in figma.
Aaron: Gee, Figma, you certainly have a lot of patience and courage.
Figma: Well I got this far. When I started, I wasn’t even in Figma, I was just an idea. Some folks back home decided they wanted a better experience, so they called their UX Expert and he said, “You’re right, there oughta be a component/token.” Then he sat down and built me out and introduced me to Dev. And I was built in Figma, and I’ll remain in Figma until they decide to make me a Token.
I’m just in Figma
Yes I’m only in Figma,
And I got as far as Test Server.
Well, now I’m stuck in Figma
And I’ll sit here and wait
While a few key Stakeholder discuss and debate Whether they should let me be a Token.
How I hope and pray that they will,
But today I am still just in Figma.
Aaron: Listen to those Stakeholders arguing! Is all that discussion and debate about you?
Figma: Yeah, I’m one of the lucky ones. Most Figma’s never even get this far. I hope they decide to report on me favorably, otherwise I may die.
Aaron: Die?
Figma: Yeah, die in Fiugma. Oooh, but it looks like I’m gonna live! Now I go to the Nunzio and Danielle, and they vote on me.
Aaron: If they vote yes, what happens?
Figma: Then I go to the Luca and Ben and the whole thing starts all over again.
Aaron: Oh no!
Figma: Oh yes!
I’m just in Figma
Yes, I’m only in Figma
And if they vote for me in IDS
Well, then I’m off to the Stakeholders
Where I’ll wait in a line
With a lot of other Figma’s
For the Stakeholders to sign
And if he signs me, then I’ll be a Token.
How I hope and pray that they will,
But today I am still just in Figma.
Aaron: You mean even if the Stakeholders says you should be a Token, the Stakeholders can still say no?
Aaron: Yes, that’s called a veto. If the Stakeholder vetoes me, I have to go back to Figma and they vote on me again, and by that time you’re so old…
Aaron: By that time, it’s very unlikely that you’ll become a Token. It’s not easy to become a Token, is it?
Figma: No!
But how I hope and I pray that I will,
But today I am still just in Figma.
Nunzio: He signed you, Figma! Now you’re a Token!
Figma: Oh yes!!!
